History
The HRGCC Story
The Hampton Roads Global Commerce Council is a non-profit organization founded in Hampton Roads in the early 1950s by local business leaders who were engaged in international commerce. The organization is dedicated to promoting the international commerce of the United States through the Hampton Roads region. The Council’s primary mission is to bring together and serve industries in Hampton Roads that are associated with national and international commerce, specifically the air, rail, trucking, and sea transport industries.
HRGCC provides the Hampton Roads community with education, information-sharing, and networking opportunities through a variety of formats, including breakfasts, luncheons, and after-work meetings where members and guests have the opportunity to hear from and meet political, industry, and community leaders.
Over the years, HRGCC has grown to feature three yearly anchor events- The State of the Port, The State of Supply Chain, and Summer Beers & BBQ. The Council is also responsible for the Commerce Builder Award which has been presented annually since 1956.
The Commerce Builder Award
A Hampton Roads Tradition For Over 60 Years
Each year the Hampton Roads Global Commerce Council presents its Commerce Builder Award to an individual or company whose contributions have significantly influenced the growth of commerce and trade in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Since 1956, the Commerce Builder Award has been presented to recipients who have displayed extraordinary vision and outstanding leadership qualities.
